Report on Webinar Cardiovascular Disease and Screening: University of Munster, Germany

The Center for Health Policy and Management (PKMK) FK-KMK at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) successfully organized a webinar titled “Cardiovascular Disease and Screening” on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 09.00 – 10.30 Munster Time, or 14.00 – 15.30 Western Indonesia Time. This event was held in collaboration with the University of Munster, Germany, aiming to enhance knowledge and understanding of cardiovascular diseases, particularly congenital heart disease, and the importance of screening in various countries.

Opening and Moderator:

The opening remarks was delivered by Prof. dr. Laksono Trisnantoro, Ph.D., who highlighted the importance of international collaboration in improving cardiovascular disease management. The main session was moderated by dr. Dyah Wulan Anggrahini, Ph.D, Sp.JP (K), who ensured a smooth and interactive discussion.

Speakers and Topics:

Prof. Gerhard-Paul Diller from the University of Munster, Germany, presented on “General overview on the care of patients with congenital heart disease as a lifelong disease.” Prof. Diller provided a comprehensive overview of managing patients with congenital heart disease as a lifelong condition. He emphasized the importance of a holistic approach in managing this condition to improve patients’ quality of life.

Prof. Sigler, also from the University of Munster, discussed “Screening for Congenital Heart Disease in Germany.” Prof. Sigler explained the screening methods used in Germany, which include routine early examinations to detect congenital heart disease. He also discussed the benefits and challenges in implementing these screenings.

Prof. Dr. dr. Lucia Kris Dinarti, SpPD-KKV, SpJP(K) from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, presented on “The status of elementary school screening in Indonesia.” Prof. Lucia highlighted the current status of congenital heart disease screening in elementary schools in Indonesia. She explained the ongoing programs, challenges faced, and efforts being made to enhance the effectiveness of screening among children.

The webinar was attended by 79 participants via Zoom and 51 participants via YouTube streaming. The attendees comprised various groups, including academics, healthcare practitioners, and students, who were highly enthusiastic about the presentations and discussions.

Closing Remarks:

The webinar concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Dr. Med. dr. Rasjid Soeparwata, Sp.B(K), Sp.BTKV(K). In his remarks, Prof. Rasjid expressed his appreciation to the speakers for their highly informative and beneficial presentations. He also thanked all the participants for their engagement and expressed hope that the knowledge gained would be applied in daily practice and encourage further advancements in cardiovascular disease screening.
